For  the FOAID event in Delhi, we came up with the Orbs installation, to create a space that blended with the surroundings of the venue and brought people together in an interactive and dynamic environment. The Orbs were programmed to create a breathing effect, pulsating with varying intensities of light creating a soothing environment for passers to interact. However, when enticed by these globes, one’s first instinct would be to touch them.

 

The posts holding the globes were installed with dry contact sensors, programmed in-sync with sound, that transitioned the calming effect of the structure into a spasmodic burst of lights accompanied by a rumble of thunder. These simulations were programmed using a DMX controller and Crestron system to integrate sound.

 

During the day, the globes served as a work of art, reflecting light from the sky and surroundings creating picturesque images of clouds on the reflective surfaces of the globes. At night when the sculpture was lit, the reflective surface of the globes mirrored the light emitted from the other lit globes, augmenting the desired impact from the choreography.

 

The purpose of this project was to establish a connection between human perception and the unanticipated in everyday life.
